John Beverley

John Beverley is professor of Spanish and Latin American literature and cultural studies, and director of graduate studies in Hispanic languages and literatures. His areas of current research and teaching interest include Latin American cultural studies, Spanish and Latin American film, Marxist criticism, U.S. Latino literature, and subaltern studies.

His books include Aspects of Gongora's "Soledades" (1980); Del Lazarillo al sandinismo (1987); Literature and Politics in the Central American Revolutions, with Mark Zimmerman (1990); and Against Literature (1993). He has made numerous contributions to volumes and collections.

He is a founding member and on the executive committee of the Graduate Program in Cultural Studies; founding member and co-coordinator of the Latin American Subatlern Studies Group; editorial consultant for several university presses; advisory editor, PMLA, boundary 2, and Estudios; member, AAUP, LASA, Marxist Literary Group, Red Interamericana de Estudios.
